This was a small supply order for machining a custom helical gear shaft assembly used in an industrial transmission system.
The assembly comprises an alloy steel gear shaft and a flexible coupling. It is used in equipment that requires stable torque transmission, high loads, and long-term reliable operation.
Material & Heat Treatment
The shaft was made from alloy steel with good hardenability and mechanical properties.
Heat treatment was made to improve shaft hardness and strength, as well as wear resistance and impact performance under operating conditions.
In the case of components for transmission, limiting dimensional alterations after heat treatment plays an important part. Consequently, the bearing seat areas were machined after heat treatment to ensure final accuracy and assembly fitment.
A machining process after heat treatment was performed to rectify potential deformation and ensure the required tolerance level for the bearing installation.
Design Features
Older-style spur gear, but a helical gear design provides much smoother engagement, so this effectively dampens vibration and makes for a better transmission.
The flexible coupling absorbs some of the impulse and vibration during operation, allowing for a more appropriate gear shaft assembly to be utilized in continuous-duty industrial equipment.
