Custom Forged Chain Components for a Heavy-Duty Conveyor System
2026-09-04
A customer needed a batch of custom forged chain components for an existing heavy-duty conveyor assembly. Our scope covered the forged link components made to the customer's drawings, rather than the design or supply of the complete chain. The parts had to fit consistently, move without excessive play and withstand repeated load and wear in service.
BestPro coordinated the forging, heat treatment, finishing and inspection as one project, giving the customer one point of contact from drawing review to final release.
Project Overview
Component: Customer-designed forged link component
Customer application: Existing heavy-duty conveyor chain system
Supply scope: Closed-die forging, trimming, heat treatment, shot blasting, local finishing and inspection
Main concerns: Fork opening, mating dimensions, section transitions, batch consistency and heat-treatment control
What Mattered in Production
The open fork shape makes these custom forged chain components sensitive to variation. If the spacing or alignment of the two arms changes during forging or heat treatment, the assembled chain can become too tight, too loose or unevenly loaded.
Before production, we reviewed the drawing around the areas that directly affect use:
Fork opening and arm alignment
Mating width and contact areas
Load-bearing transitions around the opening
Machining allowance on functional surfaces
Closed-die forging was used to provide the strength required under repeated loading. The alloy grade and heat-treatment condition followed the customer drawing; they were not changed to a more convenient substitute. After heat treatment, the parts were shot blasted to remove scale and leave the practical industrial finish shown in the photo.
Inspection and Result
Inspection focused on the dimensions that affect assembly, together with arm alignment, contact surfaces and the specified heat-treatment condition. The completed batch showed consistent fork openings and profiles, allowing the parts to move into the customer's chain assembly stage without additional correction.
For the customer, the main benefit was simple: fewer interfaces to manage and one team responsible for keeping the forging, finishing and inspection requirements aligned.
Need a Drawing-Based Forged Component?
If your chain, conveyor or material-handling project requires custom forged chain components or other alloy steel parts made to drawing, send us the 2D drawing, material and heat-treatment requirements, quantity and any available assembly information.
The engineering team at BestPro can review forging feasibility, tooling, machining allowance and the inspection points that matter before quotation. We manufacture custom forged parts to customer drawings; the surrounding chain or machine assembly remains the customer's design.
