Engineering & Manufacturing

Small batches / Prototypes: all CNC-milled and -turned; in addition as hobbing or shaping process
Medium/high volume: for forged blanks and CNC finished for higher strength, dimension stability

Manufacturing Route

Small Quantity / Prototype

Fully machined by CNC technology: turning, milling & hobbing/shaping.
Useful for checking gear geometry and centering shafts.
After heat treatment and grinding custom gear shafts have good dimensional stability.

Medium to High Volume

Forged blanks + CNC finish for the most strength and fatigue resistance
Cast blanks + CNC finishing of large or complex shapes
Small, high-volume precision parts by MIM
Choice of processes is based on geometry and shape, use.

Engineering Requirements

Accuracy of gears: pitch, lead, helix angle influence the noise and efficiency.
Runout & concentricity: Important for bearings, load distribution
Spline/keyway precision: stable torque transmission
Hardness distribution of surface layer: toothed face is hard while the core part is tough.
Stability after heat-treatment: deformation is kept to a minimum and change in size remains controllable.

Example Case

A MS11 Poclain motor shaft of material grade 42CrMo had fractured at the spline transition in application where cyclic torque was applied. The material was upgraded by BestPro to 17CrNiMo6, flat and round carburized with selected hardening. The part was manufactured as a self-contained CNC machined gear–shaft. No more cracking seen after first field tests - customer reordered 100 pcs.
